The results showed that the learning module was valid in terms of content, language, presentation, and graphics. The technique of data analysis is descriptive statistics to get a percentage of the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the learning module. Validity of the data obtained through the questionnaire module, the module practicalities questionnaire for teachers and students, observation of student activity sheets, and a performance test sheet to write short stories. The subjects were students of class IX-1 SMP Negeri 2 Lembah Gumanti academic year 2013/2014, amounting to 32 people. This research studies the development of a 4D design that is the definition, design, development, and deployment. This study was done to overcome the limitations of quality teaching materials in the process of learning to write short stories. This article aims to describe the development process of the module, validity, practicalities, and the effectiveness of CTL based learning module on the material to write short stories.
